Peterborough City Council Nominated for Recycling Award

Peterborough City Council have been shortlisted as nominees this year for two awards at the prestigious National Recycling Awards. With winners to be announced later this year, the nominations show the growing commitment from the Peterborough Council and the cities residents to increase recycling and waste management efforts.

The National Recycling Awards are held to recognise and highlight the excellence throughout the recycling sector, and help to address recycling, reuse, and waste reduction in the UK. This year’s awards looked to showcase innovative developments in the waste management sector, with Peterborough’s Love Peterborough, Love your Community scheme drawing widely praised attention.

Nominations

Amey and Peterborough City Council received nominations for the awards of Private-Public Partnership, and for a communications award for the success of the Love Peterborough, Love your Community scheme.  

The scheme has been an excellent way to inspire a new approach towards recycling in the Peterborough area, providing incentives in the form of green points for local residents to recycle more.

The green points system was introduced as a way of showing how recycling can directly benefit the local community, with the winning recycling area this March donating the £3,000 prize money to Peterborough’s Food Bank – showing that here, recycling can not only help the environment, but can help local people, too.

Peterborough Council Waste Partnership Manager, Richard Pearn, said the nominations are “recognition of Peterborough’s forward-thinking waste strategy”, educating everyone on the importance of waste management, and helping make the city a far more eco-friendly environment to be in.
