Cambridge Can Recycle! Shoppers Enjoy ‘Every Can Counts’ Event
The recent ‘Every Can Counts’ event in Cambridge was a valuable opportunity in which local shoppers were able to learn about recycling. Set up by the UK drinks can recycling programme, and supported by Cambridge BID, the event was held at the Grand Arcade in Cambridge’s centre.
An interactive event, the occasion involved not only a CANdid photo booth, but a competition in which guests were to guess the number of cans in a bale. Through the inclusion of these fun additions, the issue of recycling was approached in a light-hearted fashion.
The event was in place to highlight the importance of can recycling, educating people about their can recycling habits whilst framing the task of carrying out such recycling in a positive manner.
Every Can Counts campaign
This initiative was set up with the aim of making it easier to recycle your drinks cans and thus increasing the number of people who will successfully do this. This, in turn, will benefit the country’s environmentally conscious efforts, improving the state of our recycling practices not only in Cambridge but around the country.
At the latest count in June 2015, the figures showing the spread of participation in this scheme were as follows:
- 5120 sites
- 2088 organisations
- 12,545 collection points
Numbers like these demonstrate just how successfully the campaign is progressing, taking Cambridge recycling from strength to strength, not to mention the UK’s recycling efforts as a whole.
With continual schemes and campaigns like this one, our country can only continue to see an improvement in their attitudes towards recycling, and their subsequent success.
