What Happens to the Rubbish in my Skip?

Are you thinking about hiring a skip, but not sure what actually happens to your waste once it’s been collected? Whether you’re working on a small domestic project, or need skip hire for a commercial premises refurbishment, at Woodford Recycling our treatment of the waste we collect never differs.

Taking care of our environment has never been more of a priority, so knowing exactly where your waste is sent is vitally important to ensure the rubbish you put in your skip doesn’t just end up in a landfill.

That’s why we’re offering an insight into the process beyond your skip collection - from processing to treatment, we recycle as much waste as possible when you hire a skip with us, so you needn’t worry that your skip waste is going straight to landfill.

Check out our skip hire process below!

Step 1: Order

Decide which size skip you’ll need using our handy video guide, then simply give our friendly team a call to organise the delivery of your skip at a time and date to suit you. You can also book your skip online too. If required, we’ll also organise a road permit for a stress-free solution to waste disposal.

Step 2: Collection

At your request, we’ll collect your skip from your home at a time to suit you, ensuring a hassle-free delivery and collection process tailored to your requirements.

Step 3: Transportation

Once collected, your waste is transported to our state-of-the-art recycling centre, delivered to be sorted and separated for recycling.

Step 4: Sorting

Your skip waste is sorted in-house by their materials, including:

  • Hardcore
  • Gravel
  • Topsoil
  • Paper
  • Plastic
  • Metal

Step 5: Treatment

Once sorted, your items are treated depending on the type of material, and are either processed in-house, or outsourced to be recycled. Here are just a few examples of how your waste is repurposed:

  • Wood is recycled into biomass, which generates green, renewable energy.
  • Metal, card, and paper are all recycled to be reused in new materials.
  • Concrete and brick are crushed and repurposed as recycled aggregates to be used in construction.
  • Green waste is used as recycled compost.
  • Any residual waste is recovered and used to produce Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) which generates electricity!
